Paul Carr

Paul Carr is in demand as an organist and recitalist, accompanist, choral director and teacher. He studied organ with Dr Roy Massey MBE at Hereford Cathedral and Professor David Saint at Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating with first-class honours. Paul was Director of Music at St Paul's, Birmingham until 2016, President of the Birmingham Organists Association until 2014, and in June 2015 was awarded Honorary Membership of Birmingham Conservatoire.
Paul’s concert and recital schedule takes him all over the UK, where he has performed on many of the finest instruments. He has performed in Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic and France where has given two organ recitals at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, most recently in April 2017. There have been several visits to the USA, where Paul has performed solo recitals both in and around Chicago and at Washington National Cathedral. In April 2016 he played one of the dedication concerts on the new 5-manual Quimby organ in Fourth Church, Chicago.
For more than twenty years Paul has given monthly organ recitals in the Midlands. His current series Sunday Afternoon Organ Music takes place at Holy Trinity Wordsley on the first Sunday of every month at 3pm. He can also regularly be heard at St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham where he plays around half of the recitals in the monthly Thursday Live series.
His début solo CD recording French Flavours was recorded at St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham and has received critical acclaim, including a five-star rating in Choir & Organ magazine and Editor’s Choice in Organists Review.
Paul has worked extensively as choral accompanist and was organist for The City of Birmingham Choir's 2015 concert tour to Paris and last year accompanied their tour to Vienna. He has recorded a CD of Christmas music with The City of Birmingham Choir and Heart of England Brass, and a CD of choral music by Clive Russell and Benjamin Britten with The Henry Ley Singers in Keble College Chapel, Oxford.
Paul worked in education for 18 years until 2014, class-teaching throughout this time, he is now regularly engaged by Dudley Performing Arts for both accompanying and choral-training projects. Paul is Musician in Residence at Holy Trinity Parish Church Wordsley, Stourbridge; Director of Music to The St Ignatius Singers; Organist to St Bartholomew’s Parish Church Penn, Wolverhampton and Musical Director of Selly Park Singers.
